The use of outdated versions of the jQuery library (such as 1.x, 2.x, or early 3.x releases) may pose a **serious security risk** to a website. The **jQuery** project team officially states that older versions are no longer supported and do not receive security updates. This means that known vulnerabilities — including XSS (Cross-Site Scripting) issues — will not be patched in those versions.
